[V]ITA breuis, ars longa, tempus præceps, experimentū periculoſum,iudicium difficile. Oportet autē non ſolum ſeipſum exhibere quæ decent facientem,ſed etiam ægrotum, & præſentes,& quæ externa ſunt.

Translation

Life is short, art long, opportunity fleeting, experience perilous, judgment difficult. It is necessary, however, that not only the practitioner himself does what is fitting, but also the patient, the attendants, and external circumstances [cooperate].
